Two! Two!

Had a sneaking suspicion my potassium was a little low (muscle aches and cramps) so in a effort to handle it naturally I whipped up this baby;

1 whole banana (fresh or frozen) Potassium rich
1 cup coconut water Yup, potassium rich
1 whole orange
Ice, ice baby (K, just wanted to sing that)

Taste great and good for you.  I'll give it a try every morning for the next few days and assess the results.

Lunch on the run was required yesterday and it had to be filling as I did not know what time I'd get in.  Turns out it was late :-S

1 cup spinach
1/2 haas avocado
1 stalk celery
100g low fat cottage cheese
Water
Ice

Don't need to tell you how ugly this turned out.  Pretty bad but the taste was amazing and it did the trick.  Try it!

Canta-Loopy!

Bought myself a HUGE Cantaloupe yesterday for $ 2!  WOOT!  Which of course led to this (can't be simpler, really)...

Canta-Loopy (loopy cause it lacks difficulty and is just so crazy easy)

1.5 cups cantaloupe
.5 cups Almond milk
.5 cups Coconut mill
100g coconut Greek yogourt
Lotsa ice!

Delicioso!  Also reminded me that I need groceries, lol cause we're running low.

Enjoy it! Easy, delicious and refreshing (which is odd cause it's pretty darn cold today)!

On the run...again...Vaudreuil done, Montreal ongoing and St-Laz tonight - that's the PHANCY way!

Mornin' Sourpuss!

Citrus, beautiful citrus.  Citrus anything makes me happy!  NOTHING beats the smell of citrus.  An instant mood lifter for me!

Working from home this a.m. then I'm off site for the rest of the day so for now, orange sherbet and lemongrass candles are burning and I'm (semi) focused on designing a new living room!  Blog first, living room soon.

This morning's treat;

Sourpuss
I'm not kidding when I say it's sour so if you're not a sour fan, this is not for you!

1 whole lemon, peeled
1 whole lime, peeled
1/2 Granny Smith Apple
3 fresh mint leaves
100g lemon yogurt
Ice, as needed
1 Tbsp. honey (optional, I don't use)

Blend and pucker up!

Now back to that living room for me...  Have a great day folks!

OUF!

That's all I have to say.

Ok, not really.  I also need to have my head examined.  Literally. Back-to-back migraines have kept me off track but I'm hoping it's weather/allergy/stress related as those can be managed.

I'm going to flush my body completely tomorrow - all smoothies, all day.  Kick-start the week!

Blueberry Almond

3/4 cup frozen blueberries
1 cup almond milk
Ice, as needed

This blended beauty is packed with vitamin C, vitamin E and chock full of antioxidants

Apple Beet

1 green apple
2 large beets
1 cup coconut water
Ice, as needed

Sounds weird, I know.  But it's really good and it's really nutritious and the coconut water is fabulous for hydration.

I'm on the road most of the day so this is the perfect time to flush and kick-start.

Bear with me - I'll be back once this headache stops kickin' my butt!  Smoothies for everyone!

Power Breakfast

On the run again...I KNOW!  You'd think I'd be a wee little thing with all the running I do.  But I think my mind does most of the running so maybe I have a really cute brain? Heh heh!

It's power breakfast day!  And by the way I'm down .8lbs.  After the 2lb gain last week, I'll take it.

Power Breakie:

1 Moroccan Bread (CAN'T say enough awesome things about this bread!) - 2 pts
1 Tbsp. peanut butter - 2 pts
1 Tbsp. flax seed - .9 pts
1 small banana - 2pts

Yeah, I know that seems high for breakfast but it will keep me going until 2:00pm then I can indulge in this...

Lemon Love

100g Liberty Lemon Greek Yogurt
1/2 lemon
1/2 green apple
1/2 cup water
Ice, as needed

Blend and enjoy this sour puss blend!  Love it!

Finishing up my week with this baby (I love it!)
then it's more running around (FOOTBALL! WOOT!).  Playing on two teams is no easy feat but my little guy loves it so that's all that matters!
Future Elites!

Enjoy the day- be kind - especially to yourself!

Elimination Chamber - LOL!

It sure feels good to be back on track!  Kinda makes you wonder why you fall off the wagon when being healthy feels sooooo good?!

Doesn't take long either.  Just knowing my body was taking in good, healthy food made me feel better within a matter of hours.  Love the way our brains and bodies work:-)

That being said, eating crap can lead to...well, not crapping, lol.  To get your plumbing back in order, I highly recommend the Elimination Chamber.  Invented by yours truly, it works really well and despite the contents, is absolutely delicious!

Elimination Chamber

6 dates
4 whole figs
1 cup Silk almond milk
2 Tbsp. flax seed
1 Tbsp. cocoa
Ice, as needed

Blend the ingredients until pulverised and enjoy!

This should get everything "moving" and reset your system.

Smile at everyone you meet today.
Some will think you're crazy but it could also be the only smile someone else sees today.  Be kind to yourself!

Comfort In A Cup...

Think I've spoken before about my obsession for soup? Seriously.Obsessed.  One of my favorite things.  That and breakfast for dinner.  The world would be a better place if we had breakfast for dinner every night :-)
Makes me crave eggs and sausage....

Ok, so the soup.  The soup obsession.  I will start posting more of those recipes as well as they are low-fat, high fibre and oh so delicious.  Try this one on for size.  Could not be simpler!

Hearty White Bean Soup
4 cups veggie or chicken stock
4 cups white beans (I used dried beans and soaked them overnight.)
3 cloves garlic
6 organic carrots, chopped in small pieces
6 celery stalks, chopped in small pieces
1 medium yellow onion, diced
1/2 T olive oil or cooking spray
1 T parsley
1/2 tsp sage
1/2 tsp thyme
Salt to taste

Put everything in a crock pot, turn on low, and let the contents slowly get warm.  Cook 6-8 hours and enjoy!

Must.Listen.To.Our.Bodies.

I was rather nauseous all day yesterday - lack of sleep and feeling quite sluggish.  Chewable food was out of the question.

Needed something filling to hold me through football practice and I came up with a rather delicious combination.

Pineapple Pumpkin Smoothie

1/2 cup frozen pumpkin (you can use fresh - I had pre-split & frozen mine awhile back)
1/2 cup frozen pineapple
1 cup almond milk
100g of Liberty Greek Pineapple yogurt
1.5 tsp cinnamon
Ice (if not using frozen fruit)

This combo was truly delicious and kept me full.  The pumpkin (great for settling stomachs) also allowed me to take in at least some solid food when I got home.

St.Methode Bread, Peanut Butter, Flax Seeds, Dates

It did the trick - stomach is much better this morning although headaches have moved in.  No need to worry, I have absolutely NO doubt it's caused by the punishment I put my body through last week in making poor food choices.  Day 2 of now eating properly - can't wait to see and feel the results.

Here's a bonus recipe for you today.  Another go-to for me!  Enjoy!

Sunshine Colada

1 cup of Stash Ginger Lemon tea, cooled
1 orange
100g of Liberty Coconut Greek Yogurt
1.5 inches fresh ginger
Lotsa ice :-)

This is really refreshing and the ginger gives it such a nice kick.

Going to rest up a bit today - another packed week ahead so will grab some time when I can.  Must.Listen.To.Our.Bodies.

Happy blendin' everyone - be kind to yourself and others xo

FACT!

If you're excited about sleeping in on a Holiday Monday morning, it's not going to happen.  So shhh, don't say it out loud!  My body turned itself on at 4:30 this morning.  3:30 if we count the hour of tossing and turning.  C'mon!  Exhaustion level :10

One of my dearest friends was in town yesterday.  It made my heart sing!  We haven't seen each other since 2009 so it was long overdue.  The visit was only a few hours long but it was so good for the soul.  There are so few people in this world that despite the distance and time between visits that you can just "pick up where you left off" - I can do that with her.  We are already planning our next visit in the Fall because there is no way I am going that long without seeing her again!
That's me on the left.
My weigh-in on Friday was not good but as predicted. Up 2lbs.  Mother's Day overindulgence really kicked my butt (can't say I did much better yesterday!!)  But as corny as this may sound, every day really IS an opportunity for a new beginning!

So here I sit, it's now 5:00am - and I'm planning the week ahead.  Work, football, downtime (whassat? I plan it, don't usually get it, lol) and food choices.  Need to load up on my previous veggies and fruit and hop to it.  Planning is key.  Take 15 mins out of your day and plan this week's smoothie and meals.  Write them down, log them, put them in your agenda...do whatever you need to do to stick to your plan.  That 15 mins of planning is GOLDEN.

Giving this a whirl today....

1 beet
1 Granny Smith Apple
1/2 cup of honey Greek yogurt
1/2 cup water
1/2 lemon
Ice, as needed.

I'm looking forward to this one and can already taste it.  Can't try it yet though, that'll really confuse my body and mess up my day (not to mention wake up the rest of the house!) - I'll wait until 8:00ish, my usual breaksfast hour and hope I can re-align the body quickly.

Enjoy your day off with family and friends.  The Dude actually took the day off (yay!) so we can chillax a bit then it's football tonight! WOOT!
The Dude and I.  Love the Dude.

Have a wonderful day - and be kind to yourself! xo

I'd like a fresh start to go please!

I need a fresh start.  Good news is every day gives you one!  This week is kicking my large (but shrinking) A$$.

My choices have been bad ones, no doubt about it but I can own it.  Why?  A lot on my plate (hehe! get it?) as in much work to do, a busy season and just a lot more to cram into my 24 hours.  Did I mention I'm an 18 hour girl?  18 hours of my day are scheduled, sometimes more.  NOT complaining or whining as the only one who can change that is me, right?  Alas, 18 hours is what's right for me right now, and my family, so it's back to ME to make the RIGHT food choices.

It's ultimately up to ME and only ME to plan my days and meals.  I have underlying doubts in my head about some people in my life which I think contributes greatly.  Decisions, decisions.  But in making the wrong choices I am acknowledging that I am giving THEM back to power to hurt me so that needs to stop.

If I can teach you anything, that would be it.  Don't make my mistake and allow others to sabotage you.  YOU have value.  YOU deserve to be happy.  YOU are worth it.

Back to basics this morning.  Nothing fancy, lavish or all that interesting.  But it is healthy.  So I'll take it.

Berry Nice

1 cup almond milk
1/2 apple, chopped
1 cup mixed berries
Ice, as needed

Gotta run (not literally of course, that would kill me, lol) - we can talk sabotage more later.  Hugs folks.

Rub A Dub...

Rub a Dub
Smoothie fans!  We’ve agreed to eat healthy and take care of our bodies.  But are we really? Check out this interesting awakening article....

By Joanne Richard, Special to QMI Agency
Before you gobble down those tiny tomatoes and cucumber chunks peppering your lunch salad, here’s some food for thought: Cherry tomatoes and cucumbers are amongst the dirty dozen, the top 12 produce items with the most pesticide residues, reports the Environmental Working Group. And the lettuce is scary too. The Pesticide Action Network ascertains that “90% of lettuce tests positive for 47 different pesticides and 57 different chemical residues.”

Yikes!

According to Dr. Donese Worden, “plants aren’t just coated with pesticides, plants soak up pesticides too, especially root vegetables as well as fruits and veggies with thin skins.”

Worden, a medical and naturopathic doctor, says that “anyone who eats, drinks, breathes and bathes has exposure – not only from fruit and veggies but from the animals that eat these as well.” We also get residue from our yards, golf courses, parks and water.

Contaminants are impossible to avoid completely, says the global medical educator, so it’s important to wisely choose the foods you put in your mouth and to filter your water. Should we shun the dirty dozen? “Fruits and veggies still do good and are better than junk food, but may also cause damage.”

According to Worden, our world has become toxic in many ways. “We’ve cleaned up our air a bit but our foods are still a major concern. We can’t live in a bubble and it’s very hard to eat only organic, but you can be aware of which produce is the most toxic and buy organic for those foods as much as possible,” recommends Worden. Pesticides are definitely showing up in our systems which may have far-reaching effects on human health and development. “There are some studies linking possible relationships with DNA damage, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, cancer, lung function, behavioural problems and they disrupt the endocrine (hormonal) system.”

The Dirty Dozen: Here are the most contaminated produce items according to Ewg.org.

  1. Apples
  2. Strawberries
  3. Grapes
  4. Celery
  5. Peaches
  6. Spinach second most of veggies
  7. Sweet bell peppers
  8. Nectarines, imported
  9. Cucumber
  10. Potatoes
  11. Cherry tomatoes
  12. Hot peppers

Clean 15: Here are the least contaminated produce items according to Ewg.org.

  1. Sweet corn
  2. Onions
  3. Pineapples
  4. Asparagus
  5. Avocados
  6. Cabbage
  7. Cantaloupe
  8. Eggplant
  9. Grapefruit
  10. Kiwi
  11. Mangoes
  12. Mushrooms
  13. Papayas
  14. Frozen sweet peas
  15. Sweet potatoes
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
A lot of these items appear on my table every day.  Scary, huh?  My blending will take on a whole different life now. Keep blendin' but for goodness sakes - keep cleanin' too!

See ya soon!

Crazy, Happy Monday

It's a brand new start to the week (thank goodness!) - Need I tell you how much I seriously overindulged yesterday?  It was ugly, real ugly.  A Sunday brunch followed by a lasagna dinner and my favorite dessert, key lime cheesecake.  Gasp.  I know!

I can dissolve into tears or climb right back on track.  I'll take the climb back up route.  Yup, that's what I'll do.  I am choosing not to punish myself, yell at myself or let that one day ruin my entire week.  It was Mother's Day, I was amongst family, my beautiful kids spoiled me, I have a husband who adores me...seriously, what's to complain about?

So, let's kick off the week, shall we?

So my lovely friend Alison posted a smoothie recipe on her Facebook page and it looked so interesting that I had to try it.  Now I've tweaked it considerably to stay on plan but I cannot even begin to tell you how DELICIOUS this is.

    Harley....

Pasternak, not the motorcycle.  He is THE trainer to the stars and the rich and famous (which means he's not my trainer).  And he is a big proponent of smoothies too.
I haven't bought his latest book because I really do enjoy making up my own as I'm sure I have everything on hand and I can easily check my own points.

My mother however recently tried his reset smoothies and RAVED about them (well, except the green one, she couldn't get past the colour -  I believe she used the words awful and vomit, lol.  I however am not as easily turned off).

I am trying this one and my mom assures me it's absolutely divine!  I am not a protein powder type girl so I'm adding Greek yogurt instead.  Enjoy and blend on!

    VERY BERRY SMOOTHIE:

    (1 serving)

    Ingredients:

3/4 cup fresh or frozen raspberries

3/4 cup fresh or frozen pitted cherries

1/2 - 3/4 cup fat-free milk, almond milk, or soy milk

    1 orange, peeled

2 tbsp. vanilla or unflavored protein powder (1/2 cup vanilla Greek yogurt for me instead)

In blender or food processor, combine all the ingredients. Blend until desired consistency.

    Oh Happy Day...

I am not on the road today but get to work in the safety of my own back yard.  Putting together some fabulous home decor ideas (on a budget).

Did you know that yesterday was International No Diet Day?  Yup, no joke.  Unfortunately I took part :-(  Didn't treat my body the way I should and will no doubt pay for it on the scales this week.

Back to THE TRIGGER FLUSH and I'm going to give this baby a whirl...I'll let you know how it turns out...or try it yourself and let me know what you think :-)

    Fruit Punch

    1 orange, peeled & quartered
    1/4 lemon, peeled and seeded
    1/2 cup frozen pineapple
1/4 cup fresh or frozen mango
    Ice, as needed
    Blend and benefit!

Stay safe, think positive and blend on!

    Deliciousness is GREEN

Young and Raw featured this deliciousness recently so I had to try it!  OH.MY.GOODNESS.  Delicious it is...

    Green Smoothie

    1 rib celery
1 green apple (I removed core only)
    Handful parsley
    1/4 cucumber
1 cup water or coconut water (I used coconut for it's benefits)
    Ice, as needed

    Blend until smooth and enjoy!

It's an instant refresher and so good for you.  This will definitely be a repeat often recipe for me!

Forgot to mention I lost another .4lbs on Friday.  Good news!  I've hit goal now must focus on maintenance - not easy.  I'll just keep remembering all the hard work I've put in and how great it feels to be this size now.  Maintain, maintain, maintain :-)

    Hydration

Have to say...thank goodness for hydration on the run!  With all the scheduling and rescheduling we've had to do this weekend, food choices have been REALLY tricky.  But, hydrated I am!

    Cucumber Mint Refresher

1/2 large English cucumber (any cuke will do!)
    1/2 lemon
    5-6 fresh mint leaves
    1/2-3/4 cup water
    Ice, ice, ice.

    1. Blend the water and cucumber until smushed (an actual word?)
    2. Add lemon and mint leaves and pulverize
    3. Add ice, blend until frothy and enjoy

It's been a lovely, sunny and hot weekend here.  Much to enjoy.  My Dude (aka hubby) snapped this pic while I was waiting outside of the regional Science Fair.  My little one placed 4th out of 81.  Great job kiddo!
Still need to work on those rolly-poly sides of mine, lol.

Tomorrow we'll create a really easy Ice Cappucino that won't set you back (very little fat!).  Watch for it!

    Science Fair Stress...

Oh my!  We've been on the run, run, run all day and will be for the next two days as my son is presenting at the Regional Finals for Science Fair - woot!  We are soooo proud of him.  They sure don't make it easy for us parents.  It's all happening at Montreal's Biodome - not next door, if you catch my drift and arrivals and departures are all during rush hour.  Oh joy!

Eating will be and has been tricky but in a rush today I may have found bliss!  Vanilla Bliss!

    Enjoy!

    Vanilla Cinnamon Bliss

    1 cup almond milk
1 cup cup of vanilla greek yogourt
    1 tsp. vanilla
    2 tsp. cinnamon
    1 Tbsp. honey
    Ice, as needed

Hoooweee!  This was absolutely delightful!  Try it, you'll love it!

See ya's soon and keep your fingers crossed for my little one - he worked so hard!  Thanks!

    WoooHooooo!

Are you loving this weather or what?!  I had quite the drive ahead of me for work this morning so I skipped the bridges and traffic to hit the open highways.  WHAT A TREAT!  Sun beating down, windows open, singing at the top of my lungs to Maroon 5 & Pink, not caring who saw me!  Therapy I tell ya!

Note to self: Check to see if singing at the top of your lungs burns calories :-)

Breakfast on the run was...yeah, a smoothie...you didn't really think I'd sway did you?

    Pineapple/Black Cherry

    1 cup pineapple
    1/2 cup frozen cherries
1/2 cup cherry Greek yogurt (Oikos is my fave)
    2 tbsps. flax seed
    1/2 water
    Ice, as needed

Easy, peasy!  Kept me going straight through to lunch too.

Really trying to up my water this week too.  I'll welcome it when it really, really gets hot but now I still prefer my water at room temperature (I know, crazy huh?).

I'm trying another black cherry concoction this afternoon - will keep you posted on how it turns out.  I have a doctor's appointment this afternoon - 1st one in 7 years - gulp.  Don't blame me, blame the lack of doctors.  Another story that is!  See ya's soon!
